It’s official: Behaviour’s culture is one of Canada’s Most Admired!

Building a world-class culture is a process that Behaviour has been carefully nurturing for 30 years and we are extremely proud with its recognition today by this year’s prestigious Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Cultures Awards program.

Presented annually by Waterstone Human Capital, Behaviour was selected for this honour from among 27 finalists.

“It is an honour for Behaviour to be named among the winners of the Canada’s Most Admired Corporate Culture Awards,” says our Co-Founder, CEO and Executive Producer, Rémi Racine. “This is wonderful validation for the efforts of so many here at Behaviour to provide a truly world-class work environment.”

Behaviour’s culture extends from Rémi (who also considers Behaviour’s Chief Cultural Officer) through every aspect of our work. At the heart of our culture are five core values the influence everything we do:

  • Human in our approach yet driven in our business;
  • Creative in our ideas yet disciplined in our execution;
  • Individually collaborative, collectively competitive;
  • Passionate in our beliefs yet balanced in our actions; and
  • Pushing our limits and learning from our mistakes.

The fact ‘human’ is the first word mentioned in our values is not a coincidence. It’s a fact that is embraced across the company and reflected in policies that prioritize work/life balance, diversity & inclusion, and professional development.

This emphasis on a human-centered culture has deep roots that run back to Behaviour’s move years ago to abolish crunch time, a notorious practice in the video game industry that continues to this day. In a blog post reflecting on his decision to abolish crunch time, Rémi declares, “overworked employees putting their health and personal lives at risk would not be the foundation on which I built Behaviour’s success.” His move to abolish crunch time set us apart from other video game studios at the time and continues to do so. This commitment translates into policies that allow our team to:

  • disconnect after work hours, and enjoy ample time off;
  • see themselves represented in an environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion; and
  •  grow in their positions and develop their potential.

Also central to our culture is Behaviour’s commitment to innovation. Our purpose is to make bold, genre-defying original games and this involves a willingness to experiment, to try new technologies, and to build our own tech if need be. We encourage our teams to learn, to make mistakes, to keep ahead of the curve, and to share their learnings across our business units. We invest in full-time games R&D and ensure that all our staff are constantly innovating as well, without anything to hold anyone back. We take this to a level that most other studios don’t by allowing everyone at Behaviour to own and release their own games under our BeFree Policy.

This human and entrepreneurial spirit remains our foundation after 30 years and we are thrilled to see it recognized by the 2023 Most Admired Corporate Culture Awards
