Behaviour Interactive and The Coalition: Building Gears of War: E-Day

Behaviour Interactive is thrilled to celebrate the launch of Gears of War: E-Day,  developed in collaboration with The Coalition. The latest chapter in the iconic Gears franchise is available now on XBOX Series X|S and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam.

Gears of War: E-Day takes players back to the terrifying first hours of the Locust invasion, following series staples Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago as they face down the beginnings of a war that will change Sera forever.

For our teams at Behaviour, the road to E-Day marks another milestone in the studio’s longstanding relationship with Gears developers The Coalition – one built on years of collaboration, shared expertise, and trust.

A Battle-Tested Partnership

With nearly 35 years of development experience, Behaviour has had the privilege of working alongside some of the gaming industry’s leading studios. While every collaboration is unique, the best partnerships have proven to be those where teams work side-by-side, share expertise, tackle problems together, and ultimately become extensions of one other.

Behaviour’s and The Coalition have formed one of these partnerships. Our relationship dates back to Gears 5 and Gears 5: Hivebusters. The depth of our collaboration has grown since, and we worked as an integrated development partner throughout Gears of War: E-Day’s five-year production cycle.

“Behaviour have been great partners on E-Day. Having a co-development team that’s just as invested in the game’s success as our own team has been a huge benefit to the project. Their passion and commitment have made a real difference, and we’re grateful to have had them alongside us in bringing E-Day to life,” says Valentine Dessertenne, Production Director at The Coalition.

Turning the Gears on E-Day

Throughout development, Behaviour’s Engineering and Technical Art teams worked closely with their Coalition counterparts across a wide range of areas essential to the game’s success.

Behaviour’s Technical Art team developed tools and tech to support the creation of E-Day’s large-scale environments, while also contributing to content pipelines and optimization efforts designed to maintain the series’ high standards of visual quality and performance.

On the Engineering side, Behaviour contributed across core game systems, including controls, camera systems, saves, progression, and customization. Our teams also developed internal tools designed to help create, test, and iterate on content more effectively throughout production.

This work is not only essential to putting an ambitious AAA game concept in players’ hands, it also reflects the talent, adaptability, and technical expertise of the people behind it.

Behaviour is immensely proud of the team members who lent their skills and talents to Gears of War: E-Day. We’re also profoundly grateful to The Coalition and XBOX for the trust and collaboration they’ve demonstrated over the course of Gears’ development.

Gears of War: E-Day releases in full on October 6th on XBOX Series X|S and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam. Watch the trailer and ready yourself for Emergence Day.
