Locked, Loaded, and Ready for Another Run – Serious Sam: Shatterverse is Here
Behaviour Interactive is proud to announce the release of Serious Sam: Shatterverse, developed in collaboration with Devolver Digital. This brand-new entry in the iconic first-person shooter franchise is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Set in a fractured multiverse where multiple versions of Serious Sam fight the same war, Shatterverse welcomes the series’ signature run-and-gun chaos into a new roguelite experience packed with massive hordes, wild weapons, memorable boss battles, and plenty of reasons for one more run.
For Behaviour, Serious Sam: Shatterverse marked an opportunity to craft a new adventure that honours everything that has made the franchise so beloved for so long.
Bringing Sam Into a New Era
With Serious Sam celebrating its 25th anniversary, Behaviour’s team set out to help evolve the game’s original formula, without ever losing its roots.
“When we considered what made the original Serious Sam so special, one key element was the urge to replay stages and chase a higher score,” shares Nic Duchesne, Poducer at Behaviour. “That inspired us to imagine the formula as a roguelite built around that desire for one more run.”
The result combines procedurally shifting runs and new progression systems with the classic Serious Sam elements that fans expect: quick movement, massive enemy waves, an arsenal of devastating weapons, and skill-based run-and-gun combat. While co-op excitement served as a cornerstone of development, the team was equally committed to delivering a solo experience worthy of a traditional Serious Sam game.
Serious Collaboration
Bringing a new chapter of a classic franchise to life was a collaborative effort from the first days of development. Throughout the process, Behaviour worked closely with Devolver Digital, combining both teams’ expertise towards a shared goal: evolve Serious Sam in new and unexpected ways while preserving the fast, frantic fun at the heart of the series.
For nearly 35 years, Behaviour has worked alongside some of the industry’s leading partners, bringing its creative talent, technical expertise, and large-scale production abilities to projects across genres and franchises.
That spirit of collaboration also extended to the Serious Sam community. Through multiple playtests, player feedback was instrumental to the team rebalancing weapons, refining roguelite systems, and even rethinking major mechanics throughout development.
The result brings the one-of-a-kind spirit of Serious Sam into a brand-new experience for players to discover and enjoy.
Reality may have shattered, but Sam will always be Sam.
