The Role
Behaviour is looking for a veteran Principal Art Director who is well versed across all genres and platforms. We need someone who is aware of game industry visual trends, has a sharp eye for quality, and can provide strong creative vision across multiple games on a variety of platforms. The Principal Art Director will lead, mentor, and empower all our Art Directors to achieve the best visuals for the right platforms and audiences, always with quality being top of mind.



In this role you will :
  • Lead the Art Directors in defining the art styles all our current and future projects
  • Set the visual quality bar by clearly defining “what good looks like” for our projects in production, setting clear quality bars and expectations
  • Maintain cutting-edge knowledge of art techniques and technologies tied to the gaming industry
  • Share the latest visual trends in the industry, keeping everyone aware of what the market is demanding
  • Translate existing top-tier brands into game visuals for the purposes of business development and production
  • Clearly and visually sell the artistic vision of new concepts external clients
  • Define the best practices for establishing and conveying artistic vision for projects and opportunities
  • Share information about trends and techniques to help improve art quality across the studio
  • Seek to constantly push the limits of technology to achieve the best quality visuals
  • Directly manage and mentor all the Art Directors within Behaviour Studios
  • Review portfolios to assist in the hiring of Art Directors and Concept Artists
  • Coordinate with HR on training initiatives for Art Directors and Concept Artists
  • Help build and maintain an external contractor database of concept artists to assist in early and continued developments
What we're looking for :
  • Minimum of 10+ years of video game industry experience
  • A true passion for gaming and the current gaming market
  • The Portfolio and CV must demonstrate a variety of artistic styles across multiple platforms and genres
  • Ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally in spoken, written, and digital presentation form
  • Strong traditional art abilities are a major plus
  • Expertise with 3D software techniques
  • Expertise in Photoshop
  • Expertise in Powerpoint is a plus
  • Proven ability to manage individuals in the context of a production
  • Possession of a team-oriented mind-set with a positive attitude
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and negotiation skills
  • Experience with Unreal and Unity is a major plus
  • Fluency in English for external facing needs
  • Fluency in English and French preferred
