The Role

Behaviour Studios is seeking a dynamic Level Design Director. You are an internal and external champion for the worlds of your games. You are the vision holder for the level structure of the projects, from landing the games all the way through shipping them. You are responsible for the quality of the player's experience through the levels, and to ensure that all overarching design attributes are being expressed through the game's worlds. You also act as an empathetic mentor and step in to help the team in the polishing phases if needed.
In this role you will :
  • Establish and drive the vision and quality of level design and world structure across one or more projects in development;
  • Be an expert in level design market trends across all genres, and be a source of knowledge for the teams;
  • Create documents and presentations focused on level design vision and structure for internal and external stakeholders;
  • Evangelize the level design vision, player journey goals, and production needs for the games you are working on;
  • Communicate effectively with leaders, peers, game development teams, external partners, and clients;
  • Work directly with external publisher peers to ensure that the quality and consistency of level design is maintained throughout the development timeframe;                               
  • Help hire and mentor level designers across multiple projects throughout the studio;             
  • Help define and foster level design family career pathways and growth within the studio;    
  • Report on status of employees (motivation level, abilities, life events etc.);  
  • Be an active champion and broadcaster of Behaviour’s level design capabilities to the game industry at large.
What we're looking for :
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in the gaming industry in a level design leadership role;
  • Proven track record of already shipped AAA titles in a level design direction position;
  • Expert knowledge of Unity or Unreal;
  • Expert understanding of the requirements, rules, and restrictions of each distinct console platform related to level design;
  • Someone who is curious and aware of current level design trends as well as potential future ones;
  • A team player with an innovative and creative mindset;
  • Strong knowledge of all phases of video game production and its implications from a level design perspective;
  • Ability to communicate ideas both internally and externally (PPT, Miro, etc.) and to build presentations.
